NASSAU, The Bahamas — Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie addresses the Opening Ceremony of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Sixth Meeting of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Directors of Civil Aviation at Melia Nassau Beach Resort on May 10, 2016. Prime Minister Christie briefed attendees on the special challenges that The Bahamas faces, when it comes to civil aviation, focusing on the fact that there are 28 government-owned airports in The Bahamas, with 16 being ports of entry. He also pointed out the issues that arise when it comes to hurricanes, especially in light of last year’s Hurricane Joaquin. “We don’t need to have another warning about what our obligations are,” Prime Minister Christie said. “What we need to do is find the resources to be able to create a facility where helicopters can be refueled, on whatever high ground that exists, because there obviously will be future needs for evacuation by helicopter.” (BIS Photo/Raymond A.
