Members of The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), met with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources, Miss Rena Glinton and Senior Ministry Officials on Tuesday 5th April, 2016 at the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources. The purpose of the meeting was to give an overview of the work of the Commission and to discuss provisions 23 and 47(1) of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities) Act, 2014 which deal with Service Animals and the designation of Inspectors within all Government Ministries to ensure that the respective Ministry is compliant with the requirements of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities) Act, 2014.
It was noted that the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources was the first Ministry to be visited by the Commission and it is their intention to conduct similar meetings with all Government Ministries. Miss Glinton, welcomed the Commission and promised to urgently seek to address the issues raised.
