Bahamas Customs Inspires Future Leaders at Queen’s College Career Fair, New Providence

NASSAU, Bahamas – In a continuing effort to engage with the nation’s youth and highlight the diverse career paths within the public service, a delegation from the Bahamas Customs and Excise Department participated in the Queen’s College Career Fair on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

The department was represented by a dynamic team of officers who provided students with firsthand insight into the vital role Customs plays in the stability and prosperity of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Leading the engagement were Customs/Revenue Officers II Phiora Evans and Dwight Grant, supported by Trainee Customs/Revenue Officers T’Arnold Johnson, Brinton Bain, and Jeremiah Butler.

Throughout the day, the team hosted interactive sessions with students, answering a wide range of questions regarding the entry requirements for the department and the day-to-day responsibilities of a Customs officer. The officers moved beyond the basics of revenue collection to explain the department’s three-fold mission:

  • Border Protection: Safeguarding the nation against the illegal movement of goods.

  • Trade Facilitation: Ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of legitimate commerce to support the economy.

  • National Security: Working on the front lines to maintain the safety and sovereignty of our islands.

The presence of the Trainee Customs/Revenue Officers was particularly impactful, as it allowed students to hear from young professionals who have recently transitioned into the service. This peer-to-peer connection helped demystify the recruitment process and showcased the department as a place for career growth and national contribution.

“The future is bright,” the team shared following the event. “It is always encouraging to connect with young minds who are preparing to make their mark. Inspiring the next generation happens one conversation at a time, and we are proud to show these students how we serve our country every day.”

The Bahamas Customs and Excise Department remains committed to its outreach programs, recognizing that today’s students are the future guardians of our nation’s borders. By participating in events like the Queen’s College Career Fair, the department continues to build a bridge between the community and the essential services that keep The Bahamas safe and prosperous.
