Bahamas Customs Grand Bahama Division Inspires Students at UB North Career Day
FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – The Bahamas Customs Grand Bahama Division recently took a proactive step in community outreach and youth mentorship by participating in the annual Career Day held at the University of The Bahamas-North (UB North).
Representing the department as featured panelists, Customs officials engaged with a diverse group of students to provide a roadmap for transitioning from the classroom to the professional world. The session moved beyond technical requirements, focusing instead on the “essential intangibles” that define a successful career in both the public and private sectors.
The presentation centered on three core themes:
-
Developing Soft Skills: Panelists emphasized that while academic qualifications open doors, communication, teamwork, and emotional intelligence are what keep them open. Students were encouraged to view these skills as vital tools for navigating the complexities of the modern workplace.
-
The Power of a Positive Attitude: Discussing the impact of mindset on professional growth, the team highlighted how a solution-oriented attitude can distinguish an individual in a competitive environment and foster a healthy organizational culture.
-
Upholding Strong Work Ethics: Drawing from the rigorous standards of the Customs Department, speakers detailed the importance of integrity, reliability, and the discipline required to serve the Bahamian public with excellence.
“Serving our community goes beyond our daily duties at the borders,” noted a representative from the Grand Bahama Division. “It is about investing time into the next generation of leaders and ensuring they are equipped with the character and professionalism needed to take our nation forward.”
This initiative aligns with the Bahamas Customs Department’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and human resource development. By partnering with educational institutions like UB North, the Department continues to foster a spirit of cooperation and mentorship, helping to bridge the gap between graduation and meaningful employment.
The Bahamas Customs Grand Bahama Division remains dedicated to its mandate of protecting the nation’s borders while simultaneously building the capacity of its citizens through outreach and education.
